I’ve not been fishing for over 9 months now… No, we’ve not had a baby in the Morley house hold! (not another one anyway). I have had a very busy year, with getting married and the business taking up a lot of time I’ve not found the drive to go fishing, oh yeah I have also started another blog.
But now pike season is in full swing I am actually going on Monday 30th November. Actually looking forward to digging out the piking gear and giving the lure’s a chuck.
Happy New Year! 2015 is here and I have been out fishing on the first day of the new year. Unlike this time last year I caught a fish I’m glad to say.
Lure Fishing is a fantastic way to catch fish! Its only really something I have taken up recently but it is fast becoming one of, if not my favourite method of fishing. Tom seems to enjoy it too as it keeps him occupied for longer periods of time, he caught a nice Pike fishing at Beeston Weir last summer.
There are many different fishing lures on the market by 100’s of different manufacturers, all of which vary in quality. Some of the higher quality and top of the range lures are manufactured by Fox Rage (very expensive though).
I had been watching loads of videos on YouTube of Mick Brown dead baiting for pike and felt really inspired to go out and try it for myself. I haven’t really done much pike fishing before having only started this year so I didn’t really know what to expect.
Here is a novel idea… Groundbaiting for Pike, its not something many people seem to be doing. Ive struggled to find any good examples of pike ground baiting on YouTube. Here is a short video of me mixing up a batch of Pike Groundbait ready for a session on the Erewash Canal. I have specifically made this up to use as a pre-bait. But it can be easily used on the day as a traditional Groundbait.
The mix I’ve created was inspired by an old video I saw of the great Mick Brown, he uses compost as the basis of his groundbait. Checkout my video, give it a go!!!
So the first day of the new year, I couldn’t wait to get out there fishing. It was a pretty crappy day to be honest, gale force winds, rain and bitterly cold wind chill, you would have to be a bit mental to consider fishing in these conditions. Matt Bailey was supposed to be coming with me to take part in another “Paul Bailey Challenge” but he had the right idea and stayed home. I took my 8 year old son Tom instead.
