Here is a novel idea… Groundbaiting for Pike, its not something many people seem to be doing. Ive struggled to find any good examples of pike ground baiting on YouTube. Here is a short video of me mixing up a batch of Pike Groundbait ready for a session on the Erewash Canal. I have specifically made this up to use as a pre-bait. But it can be easily used on the day as a traditional Groundbait.
The mix I’ve created was inspired by an old video I saw of the great Mick Brown, he uses compost as the basis of his groundbait. Checkout my video, give it a go!!!
Ahh the River Erewash, it lends its name to many things locally, The Erewash Canal, Erewash Borough Council, The Erewash Valley Trail and lets not forget Erewash Golf Club. But as a fisherman I am only really interested in how the Erewash has been used for fishing… Well the short answer seems to be… It’s Not Fished!
So the first day of the new year, I couldn’t wait to get out there fishing. It was a pretty crappy day to be honest, gale force winds, rain and bitterly cold wind chill, you would have to be a bit mental to consider fishing in these conditions. Matt Bailey was supposed to be coming with me to take part in another “Paul Bailey Challenge” but he had the right idea and stayed home. I took my 8 year old son Tom instead.
So the new year is upon us, I like so many other fishing bloggers have been sat thinking about how our 2013 has gone.
My year was pretty good, it was the first year I started fishing again after a 15 year absence. It took me a little while to pick it up again. Here is a picture of me and my step daughter Emily “fiddling” with some of the tackle I’d not touched for years.
The pike is one of the UK’s most notorious and often misunderstood fish, there are tales of Pike attacking all sorts of animals, sheep, dogs and even humans!! This is of course a load of bollocks!
The Pike has become one of my favourite species, I am still new to Pike fishing but the feeling of catching one of these beautiful creatures is in my opinion unbeatable. Carp anglers will disagree I’m sure…
Once again I have caught something rather unusual whilst out lure fishing. I was bored this morning whilst Nikki had gone for a walk with Jack (our new baby boy) in his pram, so I decided to have a walk down to the Erewash canal (it is at the bottom of my street).
